Dear Prem,
cool~ it was Jules a few days ago and Prem is in the house now! so cool~ so youthsays.com delivers its promises! YS rocks!!
yea too bad for the local artists and bands.. to be honest i love a lot of malay songs too, esp when i was studying in matriculation college. i think there was the best exposure for me to learn about the talented local artists! impressed but sadly yea as you said, the marketing and recognition is way under radar..
i'm not sure if radio stations promote a lot, but the fact is people hardly listen to radios unless when they are in cars. even so, some people while driving in car prefer to play their own discs or mp3s nowadays. a really sad thing to say.. no offense man. i'm just saying what i see around my life.
having so many talented people in the entertainment industry in malaysia, just disturbing to me that they have yet achieved the recognition i believe they should have.
let's look into this issue.. where do we usually get to know about great musics? WORD OF MOUTH. from whom? friends and people around us! where else? yahoo music maybe??
do we get local music exposure from these few spots??
why advertise so heavily when you know it's not reaching the people/ mass public??
why not change another new approach to marketing the malaysian artists?
instead of just the hype from Malaysian Idol and One in A Million, which i personally followed too; what if the entertainment companies can devise a word-of-mouth advertising scheme for people to help spread great music by local artists?
look at the number of youngsters with ipods grooving out there on the streets.
why not make it a culture that the youths approaching new strangers on streets and chilling out this way, "hey check out this music, i think it's cool!"
and then pass the person a tiny card or leaflet stating, "vote me (your name, which could be the "Album Agent") at a certain site (launch one if doesn't have one yet!) where they get to vote the band for popularity and the person who recommended the song to them!
can you see what i see now? it's a profit sharing plan. devise a simple pay scheme for these cool youths grooving out there with their music something like the blog advertising pay scheme. and get your music rolling in the public!
yea you'll know where and when to host a public exposure for a mini concert later as the popularity strikes off! right?
what other benefits you get from this marketing strategy??
say.. the malaysians might get more friendly?! how cool is that! if you see a hot chick or a cool dude you wana befriend with, just hop on to them and "hey there, check this out, i think it's a cool song, by the way, can i be your friend, i'm chris!" =P
sincerely,
my visions my ideals
